Artist Profile
Caroline Batchelor is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
Her practice spans painting, drawing, and collage, with a primary focus on abstract oil painting. While studying at RMIT University in the early 2000s, Caroline developed a strong interest in non-objective forms that engage with the metaphysical dimensions of human experience.
Her imagery often explores states of the in-between — moments of becoming or transition. These include conditions felt between presence and absence, time and timelessness, remembering and forgetting, stillness and motion, solid and void. A quiet tension emerges between what is, and what is slipping away, evoking a sense of loss and longing alongside an awareness of impermanence. In this way, her work poses questions about our sense of reality: Is something real because we see and feel it, or does it exist beyond perception?
Caroline holds a Master of Fine Art from RMIT. Alongside her career in education, she maintains a studio practice in Richmond, Melbourne.
